Just Everywhere
A Mancunian at heart, I See Angels singer Paul Baird is Just Everywhere these days … and yet, per his picture, his songs seem to come from nowhere. His swooning vocal is instantly recognisable though as it carries gorgeous melodies across otherwise digitally corrupted dream-pop. An accomplished pianist amongst many other things, he often throws several piano-led bouts of songwriting into his mixes, reverbed vocal loops and fragile harmonies surging alongside pretty instrumentals, the aching hum of ambience and heavy guitar scree. An aggressive acid eats away at Baird from the inside; his tracks play urgently as a result, totemic slabs of lo-fi shoegaze noise periodically running riot with distortion pedals and protesting guitar squeal. Pin Baird down with any precision to a location and his momentum goes haywire. Track his speed and lose the man in space forever.
